About This Quiz
The Cistercian monks used to say, "To work is to pray"—that is, any work, however seemingly unimportant, poorly paid or under-recognized, is made holy and dignified by the fact of simply being work. This is certainly true. After all, if you're supporting your family, exercising your intelligence, contributing to your community or furthering humanity's prospects for the future, then you're doing something useful and important. Even if your job is "just" flipping burgers, or not very well remunerated or often misunderstood, you can come home after a day's work feeling secure in the knowledge that you are a productive citizen—and of course, that dignity extends to unpaid roles like volunteering, parenting and care work.Â
The great privilege of modern life is to be able to demand more from our work than just something that keeps the lights on. Humans today aspire not just to survive, but to thrive, to be intellectually challenged, to further our creative potential—and for some of us, that fulfillment is to be found in a weirder place than others. However, if you're overburdened with educational, personal or care responsibilities, it's perfectly OK to just want a paycheck and a job that doesn't tax your mind too much. Either way, an unusual job might suit your current needs! Let's see if we can find the right one for you!
