With the variety of animals on the planet, it comes to no surprise that humans take inspiration from the animals that share the world with them.  In ancient Egypt, several gods took animal forms: Anubis was a man with a jackal's head, helping keep watch over the dead; Bast was a goddess with the head of a cat who protected felines, and Horus was a man with a falcon head with great power. In today's religions, Hinduism not only honors their gods but their mounts (which can range from a human-bird hybrid to a mouse) as well.

Today, while many of us don't directly worship animals, we may pay homage to our four-legged companions in other ways. Some of us may get tattoos of our favorite animals; others may donate money to a cause for the conservation of these creatures.  One thing is for certain: it doesn't matter how you do it, you'll feel more connected to the animals when you do something for them. The scary thing is that the animals know when you're on their side.  So, let's see what animal has your back when they know you have theirs.
