The Pokemon franchise began as a Nintendo video game in 1995. Created by Satoshi Tajiri, it followed Pokemon trainers who would try to become a master by collecting and training their own Pokemon. The franchise continued to grow into the TV show which was released in 1997. 

"Pokemon," the series, followed ten-year-old Ash Ketchum, who wanted to become the greatest Pokemon master of all time. On his first day, he wakes up late and misses the pick for Professor Oak's Pokemon. Since Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle have been taken, Ash's only option is a Pikachu. While Ash and Pikachu's relationship starts off rocky, if you watched the series, the two were a match made in Pokemon heaven!
