About This Quiz
What is a province? A province is a region or territory within a country that is outside of the capital city of that country, but that is still governed by that country. Provinces are often rural areas that are outside of major cities. Many countries have provinces. Canada, for instance, has 10 provinces within the borders of the nation we know as Canada. The provinces of Canada are Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan. Some provinces, such as those in Canada, have created laws that are external from the federal government, which is called federalism. In China, however, provinces were created by the central government and are closely controlled by the government. Unlike in Canada, the provinces in China have no individual autonomy - they must adhere to the laws set forth by the central government. The specifics of provinces may vary according to where they are located.ÂÂ
