The term "Baby Boomer" -- as well as this generational segmentation -- is said to have been used in the '90s, but some point to different sources that date back to the '70s. In essence, a baby boomer is someone born after World War II, a time when surviving soldiers returned home to their wives and, well, made love, not war. And of course, you know what happened next!

Social scientists and experts noticed a significant increase in the birth rate during those post-war years.
