About This Quiz
Over the past 130 years of motoring, the car has come on in leaps and bounds in terms of design.Â
As automotive engineers learned more and engines became more powerful and pushed vehicles along at faster speeds, things like aerodynamics became important, leading to sweeping lines in terms of design.Â
That said, many cars, even to this day, remain, in a word, UGLY!
We accept that this is a very subjective thing, but we have gone about identifying 50 that we believe are some of the ugliest cars ever produced.Â
But would you be able to name them all?
And we have a range of cars on the list. Some are fairly obscure. They would have to be, as ugly generally means they weren't bought in great quantities and fell away into obscurity. Of course, there are exceptions to this like the Yugoslavian car brought to the United States in the early 1980s. Thousand and thousands were sold, despite the fact the car was not only ugly but not reliable either. And there are many more.Â
Now you may not agree with all the cars on this list, but as we said, beauty or ugliness is often in the eye of the beholder.

Produced from 1961 to 1978, the Ami from Citroen was fairly hideous! Looking like it was designed when a high wind was blowing, the Ami had a large slant from the right to left. Apparently, they are in demand today. There is no accounting for taste, is there?

Made in Australia, the Zeta first entered production in 1963. This lasted to 1965 with only 400 sold. This might have been on account of the fact that the Zeta not only had a silly name but was not the prettiest car to look at.

Produced in communist East Germany from 1966 to 1991, the Wartburg 353 was not the finest moment in car design. But when there isn't much competition, even ugly sells. Over 1 million were built during that period.

When you are making an off-road or leisure vehicle, we understand that big and imposing is a good thing. A large ugly rear section with massive windows doesn't make your vehicle look big and imposing, it makes it look silly. Those funny round headlights on a square design don't help either.

Let's face it, the DeLorean failed for a number of reasons. Looks must have been one of them. It's not pretty and only really saved by having gullwing doors. It gets coolness points for having formed part of the "Back to the Future" film trilogy, however. Cool can still be ugly!

If we're honest, a few better design elements and the Mantis XP might have been a looker. Now, however, it's not the prettiest sports car you will ever see. And that's us being nice. The front, in particular, looks like a motorbike road straight down the hood and dented it perfectly down the middle.
