About This Quiz
One of the most important marketing tools for any car company is its logo. Everyone knows the Ferrari logo, for example. That rearing stallion tells you the car you're looking at has serious horsepower under the hood. But how about without the logo? Think you could pick out a Testarossa without that horse on the hood? That's what this quiz will test! We've got very popular, well-known cars ... but we've taken off the logos. Can you still identify the makers?
The Rolls Royce logo was one of the earliest highly identifiable car logos. "The Spirit of Ecstasy" is the actual name of the winged figure on the hoods of classic Rolls Royce sedans. It was designed by an acclaimed sculptor, and his mistress was the model for the figure. This was the sort of scandalous rumor that added to the allure and mystery of the Rolls.
Originally, the statuette was silver-plated, but once enterprising thieves began sawing them off hoods to sell for cash, Rolls switched to nickel plating. These days, the figure is a kneeling woman done in stainless steel with 24-karat gold accents, and it can be retracted into the hood with the push of a button.
But could you identify a Rolls without its statue? How about any of these other well-known roadsters? Turn the key and fire up your brain for this quiz!
