Toyota or Acura: What am I?
Toyota
The Rush is a rebadged Daihatsu Terios. First launched in 1997, the Rush is currently in its third generation and is powered by a 1.5-liter gas engine with either an automatic or manual transmission.
Currently only available in China, the CDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV and the first vehicle for the brand to include a turbocharger. Future markets for the vehicle might include the United States.
Specially designed for the African market, the Quantum is used as a mini-bus taxi, transporting much of the population to and from work each day. It holds 12 passengers and is powered by either a 2.5 diesel or 2.7-liter gas engine.
This mini MPV entered the Toyota fleet in 2005 and remains a current model to this day. By the time the second generation was released in 2010, another name had been adopted for the model, the Verso-S, although it would only be marketed in Europe under that name.
Certainly one of Toyota’s better off-roaders, the 4Runner is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine. Not only is the 4Runner a very capable off-road machine, it has that excellent Toyota reliability. One negative, however, is the limited clearance which can be overcome by thoughtful, clever driving.
The Vigor was marketed in the United States from 1991 to 1994. It was based on a stretched version of the Honda Accord chassis, although at first, early models were essentially the first-generation Honda Vigor, a car close to a decade old.
Available as both a hatchback and sedan, the Etios competes in the subcompact class for Toyota. It was first introduced in 2010 and is currently still in its first generation, although it has received two facelifts over the years.
A luxury crossover, the ZDX certainly looks the part. It was first introduced in 2009 and produced until 2010. It didn't sell particularly well in the United States, however.
The 2018 Acura IRX is one of the cheapest vehicles in its class. It offers excellent fuel economy but performance-wise, it's not that impressive. The entry-level model also has the bare minimum in terms of accessories. Expect 35 mpg on the open road and around 25 mpg in the city.
This mini MPV is also sold by both Daihatsu and Subaru. In fact, the design is actually by Daihatsu. The Tank was first introduced in 2016 and is powered by a 1.0-liter gas engine.
The first prototype vehicle produced by Toyota was the A1. When put into production, it became the AA. Over 1,300 were produced in the period from 1936 to 1943. The AA was available as four-door sedan or convertible.
Largely acknowledged as one of the best off-roaders ever, the FJ40 Land Cruiser was produced between 1974 and 1993. And the best part? Well, the Cruiser was able to tackle the toughest terrain straight out the box, with little need for modifications.
The two-door coupe version of the Legend was introduced to the United States market in 1987, a year after the sedan. Its power came from a 2.7-liter V6 engine which delivered 160 brake horsepower. The second generation beefed up somewhat, with an engine producing 230 brake horsepower coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Built between 1986 and 2001, the Integra Coupe was based on the Honda Civic sedan. When Acura was first launched in 1986, this was one of only two models offered.
Made mostly for the Japanese market, the Alphard is named after the brightest star in the Hydra constellation. This luxury MPV, first marketed in 2002 is still in production. It features 3 different models and is available as either a seven- or eight-seater. Now in its third generation, the Alphard top of the range model is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine.
Derived from the Corolla, the Auris is a compact hatchback first introduced in 2006. The Auris has a upscale version, called the Blade. This is only available in Japan.
A long-serving model in the Toyota range, the Century was first marketed in 1967. This four-door limo is the flagship model for the brand in Japan and is used by the Emperor, Prime Minister as well as Japanese businessmen. It is currently in its third generation.
Now in its third generation, the RDX, an SUV from Acura, was introduced in 2006. The latest marque is a thoroughly modern design incorporating jewel-shaped headlights as well as sleek lines. The RDX offers two engine options, both V6, one of which is all-wheel drive.
This full-sized luxury car was introduced by Toyota in 1991 and is still in production. Now in its sixth generation, the Crown Majesta is powered by a hybrid gasoline engine producing over 300 brake horsepower.
When Acura was first launched in 1986, this was one of only two models offered. The first generation Legend was powered by a 2.5-liter V6 engine. It produced around 150 brake horsepower. One further generation followed before production ended in 1996.
First released in 1955, the Crown is the longest running model in the Toyota fleet. It is now into its 15th generation. Today, the Crown is a luxury four-door sedan but over the years there have been many different models.
Sold in Japan and a few other Asian markets, the Mark X is a mid-sized 4-door sedan first introduced in 2004. It is powered by a range of V6 engine options from 2.5-liter to 3.5-liter while the Mark X also offers either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Built between 1986 and 2001, the Integra Coupe was based on the Honda model of the same name. In fact, when this Acura was first launched in 1986, this was one of only two models offered. Interestingly, the third generation was considered one of the easiest cars to steal in the United States!
This gasoline or hybrid-powered SUV made its debut in 2001. Since then, five generations have been produced with talk of more. Power comes from a 3.5-liter V6 engine which produces 290 brake horsepower.
Competing in the subcompact class, the Vitz was first produced in 1999. Now in its third generation, it is available as a three-door or five-door hatchback. It is marketed under the Yaris name badge in many parts of the world.
This minivan entered the Toyota stable in 2004. Available only in Japan, the Isis was designed by Hiroshi Okamoto. Transmission is automatic, while the Isis is powered by either a 1.8 or 2.0-liter engine.
Also known as the Honda NSX, this 2-door sports car became very popular in the United States. Former F1 champion Ayrton Senna even had input in the design of the Acura NSX.
First marketed in 2001, the Allion competes in the compact car segment. This four-door sedan is sold only in Japan. Current models offer an automatic transmission while there are three gas engines to choose from.
The flagship of the Acura brand, the RLX was first introduced in 2013 and is now in its second generation. It features an all-wheel steering system, all-wheel drive and is definitely aimed to compete with luxury German models. It has both a hybrid and gasoline engine option.
This SUV is mid-sized and marketed in Japan since 1997. In other markets, it is known as the Lexus RX. A range of power plants are on offer with the current generation including a hybrid. They also include the Toyota Safety P system which includes a pre-crash safety system.
First released in 2012, the 86 is a two-door fastback coupe sports car. It is powered by a 2.0-liter straight four engine which propels the 86 to 100 mph in 7.6 seconds.
The TLX is a mid-sized luxury car and is well priced to compete against its rivals such as the Audi A6 and the Mercedes Benz E-Class. The TLX comes as both a front-wheel and all-wheel drive, although it is let down by run-of-the-mill base engine option as well as having less cargo space than its rivals.
Released in the compact car market in 1982, the Toyota Camry has changed over the years and since 1991, the vehicle has found itself in the mid-size car category. In that guise, the Camry has undergone facelifts on six separate occasions. It is an extremely popular model in the United States, selling over 2 million units in the last five years.
Seven generations of the Toyota Celica were produced between 1971 and 2006. This very popular sports car has an excellent racing pedigree and did well in both track racing as well as rallying.
One of the few Kei or city cars marketed by Toyota outside Japan, the Aygo first hit the streets in 2005. These cars are exactly the same as the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 108.
A compact executive model, the TSX featured as an Acura model from 2003 to 2014. It is sold all over the world with the second generation available as a sedan and station wagon. The top of the range model has a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 280 brake horsepower.

The RSX replaced the popular Integra from 2002 onward. This compact luxury car featured a 3-door hatchback coupe design and sold close to 130,000 units till its production run ended in 2006.
Marketed in the subcompact class, the aim of the Publica was to give the Japanese public a cheap family car. Available in a number of configurations, including station wagon, convertible, coupe and pickup, the Publica was built from 1961 to 1978. The last version, known as the Toyota 1000, was also marketed outside Japan.
This front-engined, four-wheel drive (in some models) SUV is popular in many countries around the world. It was first released in 1992 and is currently in its fourth generation. Its popularity in the United States, in particular, continues to grow.
Built for luxury and with some performance added, the RL was marketed by Acura from 2005 to 2012. The second and last generation was powered by a 3.7-liter V6 motor pushing out over 300 brake horsepower. It also featured and all-wheel drive option.
