About This Quiz

Think you know everything there is to know about the iconic television show, "Cheers"? Take this quiz to find out.

For eleven seasons and 275 episodes, we watched as Sam, Diane, Norm, Coach, Carla and Cliff gathered at their favorite watering hole to relax and chat. But this hugely popular show almost never became the success it was. "Cheers" first aired in 1982 and was near the bottom of the pile of the season's television offerings. Clearly the show was an acquired taste, and thank goodness viewers acquired a taste for it. After all, what would television history be without "Cheers"? Numerous sources now rank the show as one of the best of all time.

"Cheers" spawned two spin-off shows: "Frasier," which was very successful, and "The Tortellis," which was cancelled after only 13 episodes. "Frasier" featured Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane, a psychiatrist and former love interest of Diane's who eventually married, then divorced, Lilith Sternin, also a psychiatrist. However, "Cheers" itself was primarily about the bartender and Cheers owner, Sam, and his love interest, waitress Diane (until the final seasons).

So, if you know that Sam was a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox  known as Mayday Malone, that the show's theme song was "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," and that Carla Tortelli was a mother of eight, this quiz is for you.

Let's get started.

Which actor played the character Sam Malone?
Ted Danson
During the show's 11-year run, Danson was nominated nine times for an Emmy Award as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and won twice, in 1990 and 1993.
Kelsey Grammar
Woody Harrelson
George Wendt
What is the name of Norm's wife?
Norma
Florence

Mary
Which actor played the character Cliff Claven?
John Ratzenberger
Cliff wasn't in the original script. John Ratzenberger auditioned for the part of Norm and wasn't thought suitable. He then asked the writers if they had a "bar know-it-all" and quickly improvised a character. This impressed the producers to the point that they created the part of Cliff Clavin for him.
Kelsey Grammar
Ted Danson

While the sitcom Wings was created and produced by Cheers writers, and characters crossed over between the two shows, it is considered more of a companion show and in no way a spin-off of Cheers.
